In August and September, 2020 I am offering a private individual 8 week online photography course tailored to your own photographic goals. I will take a maximum of 5 students for the 2 months, providing an individual hour online teaching meeting every week at a time convenient for both teacher and student.
The course will be constructed for your proficiency level of photography and post-production, oriented towards your own individual goals.
Each weekly project will be built for you individually; with 60 minute discussion, teaching, research and critique sessions.
You can also expect to reach out for up to 5 support emails and one short Facetime Q&A per week,
(If needed), to answer your questions and problem solve as you work on your projects.
The intention is to learn well, have fun and work towards your photographic goals.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
You will need a camera of some sort; pinhole, analog or digital, its instruction manual, a computer and access to digital processing tools, such as Photoshop or a scanner for analog. Any other requirements will be on an individual basis depending on your camera and your goals and intentions.
This is a strange moment globally and it is necessary to be flexible with teaching situations. I am aware that many people are in variable and unusual situations. I will consciously construct classes for you, taking this into account.
Consider these questions, which will be important if you are accepted onto this course. Please cut and paste and answer these questions via the contact page. Wait to be accepted on the course before purchasing, as I want to make sure we can work together, and that I can help you towards your goals.

Former student reviews
Frances Melhop is quite possibly the most inspiring teacher/professor I’ve ever had! The amount of energy and passion she has for photography is enough to easily make you want to pick up a camera for yourself! Not only does she do amazing work, but wants to help you too! Having troubles thinking of ideas? I promise a 10 minute conversation will change that. At times I felt very lost and confused, but with how approachable and passionate Frances is, she’s more than willing to help out. I entered the photography class with little to no previous knowledge of how to use a camera, with the exception of pressing the button to take the photo. I left knowing how to fully adjust the settings on the camera to take the perfect photo, how to use photoshop, and how to print the photo properly. Not only that, but to be able to read a photo, read a landscape, look for the little details, and have a passion for photography. This was the most fun and eye opening class I’ve ever taken. Frances helped change the way I look at photos, landscapes, and the world in general. I hope she can do the same for you. – Caleb Leek
As a visual artist with years of experience, Frances Melhop is very knowledgeable in both the business of photography and the art of photography. She is friendly, guiding, and will always give you a neat tip that can make your life easier as a photographer. Melhop knows what the future of photography looks like and strove to always set us up as students for success. Her vast knowledge will make you a better photographer both technically and conceptually by the end of this course. - Kari Van Der Wahl
I had the pleasure of taking a Visual Foundations class with Professor Melhop recently, and I have to say that it was one of the most enjoyable classes I have ever taken. Not only was the content of the course stimulating but the engagement I had with it thanks to her involvement was what made it such a good experience. She was always there to help with whatever step in the creative process you were at, whether it was to encourage you to explore an idea you had never thought of before, give you a little bit of advice on technique and theory, give feedback on what you were working on, or help you take a new perspective on things. Having her as a professor in this class helped me learn more about art and expand more upon my creativity than any other class I have ever taken and I cannot thank her enough for that. – Takoda Stewart
Frances was an amazing and thorough instructor who really paid attention to helping her students in every regard. She made me feel comfortable and her experience is unmatched. Having her, a world class artist teaching me was truly valuable. - Bana Twal former student 2020
